3 Natural Herbs to Keep you Healthy this Winter

During the winter time, many of us catch a cold super easily . One natural way to prevent or even beat the cold is with herbal infusions. Below I give you 3 natural herbs known as cold and flu remedies.

Eucalyptus

This herb native to Australia, it is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and one of the best to beat the cold. Eucalyptus can be used both as an essential oil or an infusion. In the first case, it reduces congestion and fatigue while it can be used in order to relieve muscle pain. However, it is advisable not to be swallowed. Otherwise, more than a small amount can cause seizures. The best way for using it, is to add a few drops of the oil when breathing in some boiling water. In the second case, you can steep some crushed leaves in boiling water for ten minutes and then strain them. Your tea is ready to give a battle against coughs and bronchitis. It is also used as an ingredient in cremes and perfumes.

Mint

Mint is known for its properties as it was used in everyday life in Ancient Greece and in Ancient Rome. This hearb is among the famous in aromatherapy as it relieves, refreshes and stimulates not only the body but also the face. It’s ideal applied to oily skin types and faces with acne while it reduces the creation of black spots. When used in body, it works well too. Just like eucalyptus, it reduces congestion and fatigue and it can be found as an infusion and an essential oil as well. Same, as an essential oil it must be used carefully. If you want to taste it as a tea, you can follow tha same process as with eucalyptus or find it in tea bags in a supermarket or other stores. Mint tea, since it’s caffeine free, it can be enjoyed at any time of day. However, two cups a day, each one after meal and dinner, it’s a good place to start.

Echinacea

This plant used by the American Indians in North America hundrend years ago , it is probably the most famous weapon against the cold till the day. Actually, you can find it as a basic ingredient in cremes, cough syrups, cough drops and food supplements, . Echinacea is also a source of antioxidants like Vitamin C, Selenium and Zinc thus contributes to the inmune system strengthening. Moreover, it ts said that it reduces skin irritation and bad breath while it has anti-inflammatory properties, However, some people have reported unwanted side effects like nausea and diarrhea. For that reason, always talk to your doctor to confirm if it’s actually good for you. Echinacea is also available in teas and extracts.

Important note: No matter their healing properties, many natural hearbs can cause unwanted side effects. That means that even they work wonders for me, maybe for someone else is not a good option. So please ask your doctor or your pharmacist about their use.
